Does Preparation H Really Help Puffy Eyes?

Posted on March 22, 2012September 20, 2019

Puffy eyes can make people look tired and older.  Since the skin around the eyes is very delicate, there are many factors that cause the eyes to puff up. Puffiness can be caused by fluid retention, hormone levels fluctuating, dehydration, medication, allergies, not getting enough rest and from crying too much.  Some simple ways to help reduce the puffiness is by reducing salt intake in your diet, getting more rest, having some bananas and raisins, drinking cranberry juice, and exercising regularly.  Then there is Dr. Wright’s secret “quick tip” for fluid-retention, “had too much salt” wake-up in the morning, puffy eyes – Preparation H!

Dr. Wright’s Tip

There are many questions and concerns about using Preparation H around the eyes.  Preparation H is a hemorrhoid cream.  It helps to constrict blood vessels, which helps to keep the blood away from the hemorrhoids, so it can shrink.  When you use this cream under your eyes, it has the same effect, except it will shrink the capillaries and temporarily reduce puffy eyes and dark circles.  Despite initial relief from puffiness, it can have side effects which include burning and irritation under the eyes, headaches, and after over a period of time it can make the blood vessels more dilated than normal.

Although Preparation H may be a quick solution – it is not designed for the delicate skin around the eyes and therefore be very cautious when using it.  My more reliable recommendation which would actually be safer for your eyes, is to try my REVIVAL EYES.  This eye serum is my unique creation that is created to help with the symptoms of puffiness, sagging skin, dark circles, and wrinkles.  REVIVAL EYES is strictly a serum used for treating the skin around the eyes and is not a moisturizer.  If you would also like to have a moisturizer to go along with REVIVAL EYES, you can use EYE QUENCH in conjunction to keep the skin around your eyes well  hydrated.  Both of these products are available to purchase at Skin M.D. and Beyond.  Additionally, you can purchase these products at www. skinmdandbeyond.com.

Don’t Let Your Eye Liner Run!

This summer I know we will see a lot of running eyeliner. Sweat and tears can be drastic to any non-waterproof eyeliner. It can run and sit under the eye making you look older and run down.

Dr. Wright’s Tip

One cure for running eyeliner would be to invest in a waterproof one. This August, we have been experiencing hot and humid weather. For some, enjoying their day at a pool or beach can be an “eyeliner enemy” as it will sweat or splash off, leaving streaks behind that look like dark circles! To help with this problem, when applying your eyeliner, make sure the eye area is not over-moisturized with eye creams. Over-moisturized eyes can cause your eyeliner to spread and become unstable. But the best trick of all is too aim for waterproof eyeliner and when applying set with a powder shadow in the same color family.
